Moore was born on February 11, 1947 in Gadsden, Alabama to Roy Baxter Moore and Evelyn Stewart as the oldest of five children. Moore attended his freshman year of high school at Gallant and transferred to Etowah County High School. He then went to United States Military Academy where he graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then went to University of Alabama School of Law and graduated in 1977 with a Juris Doctor degree.
Roy Moore started his career working as a prosecuting attorney from 1977 to 1982. He then served as an attorney in private practice from 1984 to 1994. In 1992, he was elected as Judge for the Sixteenth Circuit Court of Alabama in 1992 by getting 62% of the votes. He was then elected to the position of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2001, but he was removed from that position in 2003 by Alabama Court of the Judiciary.
In 2002, he founded the nonprofit Christian legal organization “Foundation for Moral Law” in 2002. Moore and his company attracted attention after his company accepted a $1000 from a neo-Nazi organization. He has also got significant attention over his strong anti-homosexual, anti-Muslim and far-right comments. He also gave a strong voice against President Obama saying that he was not born in United States and also said that he was a secret muslim.
Apart from that, four women accused him of sexual behavior which occurred when they were in their teens and Moore was in his thirties. However, he denied the allegations and that led him to drop out of the Alabama special election for US Senate. Currently, Moore is the Republican nominee to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by Jeff sessions. The election will be held on December 12, 2017.
