Jenny Durkan is an American Lawyer who is recognized as first openly gay United States attorney. She is regarded as an exceptional leader in the Justice Department’s fight against cyber-crime and her service to protect the civil rights of all Americans. She is currently leading and potential candidate in the race of Mayor for Seattle.
Jenny Durkan Career
Born on May 19, 1958 in Seattle, Washington, she dreamt of becoming a lawyer since her childhood. In the pursuit of her dream, she graduated in law from the University of Washington School of Law in 1985. Her law practices started from law school. She worked with public defender’s office to represent individuals charged in Seattle municipal court. Later on, her pursuit to become a successful lawyer took her to Washington D.C where she worked in civil and criminal cases with the firm of Williams & Connolly.
In 1991, she moved back to Seattle, and emphasised on criminal defense and took the cases on behalf of plantiffs. Her notable achievement as lawyer was winning the 2005 recount lawsuit that attempted to undo Governor Chris Gregoire’s election as governor in 2004.
In addition to her work as lawyer, she has also served on Washington State Sentencing Guidelines Commission from 1993 to 1996 and, as the first Citizen Observer on the Seattle Police Firearms Review Board from 1997–2000. Furthermore, she worked for the Merit Selection Committee for the United States District Court.
She has worked for non-profit board of the Center for Women and Democracy from 2000 to 2009, founding Board Member for the Seattle Police Foundation from 2002 to 2004, and as the Chair of the Washington State Attorney General’s Task Force on Consumer Privacy.
On October 9, 2009, she started working as US attorney for the Western District of Washington. Her work as an attorney has received the accolades. She has done impressive works on civil rights, cybercrimes, terrorism and security and so on.
In recent time, she has collaborated with other attorneys at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in order to avoid deport of families and individuals who had arrived lawfully at the airport the day President Donald Trump’s first Travel Ban executive order went into effect.
She has also worked with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan for internet and online security issues after her service of US attorney.

Durkan is from the political background. Her mother, Martin Durkan was a former member of Washington State Senate and two time nominated candidate for Governor of Washington.
She lives with her partner Dana Garvey in Seattle. They have two teenage sons.
